We had a little coupon snafu at CVS last night. Not to worry…. The cashier fixed after we checked out. Here’s what we got.
Merchandise Value: $48.26
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $0 (just tax)
Savings: 100%
The cashier thought I only had 2 Buy 1 – Get 1 FREE coupons for the Right Guard/Dry Idea, so here’s the original transaction:
What I Bought:
1 Bounty Basic Paper Towels 8-pack – $5.97
4 Sobe Lifewater – $1.59 each
1 Blink Tears – $7.99
2 Right Guard Deodorant – $4.49 each
2 Dry Idea Gel Deodorant – $4.19 each
2 Dry Idea Roll-On Deodorant – $5.29 each
Coupons Used:
-$5 off any $15 purchase coupon printed at in-store coupon machine
-$2.00 off Bounty CVS store coupon from previous receipt
-$1.00 off Bounty coupon from P&G home mailer
-$1.59 x 2 Buy 1 – Get 1 FREE Sobe printable coupons
-$4.49 Right Guard Buy 1 – Get 1 FREE coupon from 7/25 RedPlum insert
-$4.19 Dry Idea Buy 1 – Get 1 FREE coupon from 7/25 RedPlum insert
-$1.50 Blink printable coupon (HERE for FF)
-$5.00 ECBs from last week
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $4.75 plus tax
That’s when I raised an eyebrow. I paid and then checked the receipt for the coupons. (The cashier was sure that all of my deodorant coupons had come off.) I noticed that the $5.29 one didn’t. When I showed the cashier, he said that he thought I only had 2 coupons. He checked, found the other coupon, and remedied the situation…. Honest mistake!
Got Back: $5.29 (Which was more than I paid but only slightly less than my total with tax. I was okay with that, and so was the cashier.)
Lesson Learned: Checking my receipt saved me $5.29. That’s a lot when you consider my usual out-of-pocket at CVS. Had I just walked away, I would have had to explain the situation later when the coupons had already been taken out of the drawer. It took a little time to deal with the situation right then, but it paid off.

Good for you, April!
Sometimes it’s hard to ask, but it sure does pay off!
My printout shorted me 5 ECB today…I am new to this so I went back into the store and asked them to explain why I didn’t get the 5 ECB..and he said it should of printed…so he printed one out for me…Awesome customer service! And I learned a lesson to always check!
I had a total in mind, and what he said didn’t match it. He was kind of adamant (in a polite way, of course) that it was right. I figured I’d get the receipt and let that show the proof. He just honestly thought I had 2 coupons. They kind of stuck together, even in the drawer. Fortunately I had a very kind cashier and I was able to calmly show him the error!
Me too! Five bucks goes a LONG way at CVS!
I usually try if I can to know roughly what my total should be that way before I pay I know if its right or not. But I always check my receipt no matter where I go before I walk out the door! But great job on your CVS trip! I am a new follower! Follow me back if you like
