Couponing for Good: Shopping for Kids #AllYouCFK

With the end of the school year coming faster than we think, it’s time to start thinking about the kids who usually eat breakfast and lunch at school. Summertime usually means a decrease in donations to local food pantries, but it’s actually a time when those donations are needed even more.

We keep a bag in a kitchen cupboard, and when we get something for free or close-to-free and have extras, we drop those extras into the bag. When the bag fills up, we drop it off for our local food pantry. I took a peek into our bag today, and I realized that there wasn’t anything kid-friendly in that bag. It was all for grown-ups and pets. So it was time to go shopping.

Before we left, I got my coupons organized and ready to go. I searched everywhere for this month’s All You Magazine and realized that *GASP* my subscription had run out! Last month was my last month. I decided to pick up this month’s copy while we were out shopping.

We decided to shop specifically with kids and the food pantry in mind, and I let Emma lead the way. We started out picking out some Dora toothpaste and shampoo and then headed to the food aisles. We scouted out foods that were kid-friendly.

Emma did a great job finding foods that were nutritious and appealing to kids. I steered her toward the brands that I had coupons for. Win-win!

Check out our Google+ Story here and see what else we bought. We’ll be back soon to show you everything we donated. With summer approaching and more kids needing help, I hope that you’ll check with your local food pantry to see what they might need. You can also check out the Champions for Kids website or follow them on Facebook or Twitter.

Vitamin D: Staying Healthy Without Breaking the Bank

My family has been investigating what we can do to stay healthier this winter. One of the vitamins that we’ve been looking at is Vitamin D. I’ve read all about its powerful immune-boosting capabilities. But what I didn’t realize was that Vitamin D packs more punch than just boosting immunity.

  • Vitamin D supports teeth, bone, and immune health.
  • Vitamin D supports the absorption of calcium. It also supports breast, colon and prostate health, and contributes to the maintenance of a healthy mood.
  • Ensuring healthy levels of Vitamin D in your body may promote heart health.
  • Vitamin D supplements come in two forms: Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is the most effective for maintaining adequate levels of Vitamin D in the body.

Vitamin D3 can be made naturally by our bodies, but let’s face it… Who spends enough time out in the sun year-round to be sure that we’re making enough? I know I sure don’t! I know that eating dairy products helps, but it’s just not enough.

As a woman, I also want to make sure that my body is absorbing calcium the way it’s supposed to in order to avoid osteoporosis when I’m older. I just watched this short video about Vitamin D and how it works to get calcium to our bones.

We just stopped by Walmart to check out their Vitamin D offerings.

Oh my! There were so many to choose from. I was especially impressed with the price of the Nature Made Vitamin D. Not only is the product not expensive… They also offer Nature Made printable coupons that you can use to save money.

Take a look at our Vitamin D shopping trip here. We had fun checking out all the options. I’m sold on the fact that taking care of ourselves doesn’t have to break the bank. And we’re worth it!

Do you take Vitamin D? If so, do you take it for immunity? Or did you already know about the bone-building benefits of Vitamin D?
