Couponing for Good: Food Pantry Donations for Kids

Remember the shopping trip where we went to Walmart to buy food pantry items for kids? We had a chance to deliver them today. We have a food pantry donation basket at our church, so it’s super-convenient to drop things off!

Here’s what we ended up bagging up to drop off in the basket. We had some items before we went shopping

And we were able to buy all this to add to it….

I love that these are kid-friendly donations. With summer vacation coming, the food pantries are going to need to have some extra supplies on hand to make up for some of the breakfasts and lunches eaten at school.

Here’s the food pantry basket after we were done with it. :) THAT’S more like it!

So now’s the time to break out the coupons and go couponing for good! Don’t forget to check out the Champions for Kids website or follow them on Facebook or Twitter. They’re sharing some more simple service project ideas like this one.

Way to Give: Loving Single Friends on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day… Does the mention of the holiday conjure up images of cards, flowers, candy, and fun? Are you anticipating a fun day or evening with your family or sweetheart? I hope so!

Valentine’s Day can be incredibly fun, especially when you have a family or other loved one to share it with. But it can also be quite lonely for some people.

Do you have a single friend?
Does one of your neighbors live alone?
Do you know someone who lost their husband or wife this past year?

As I’ve thought about Valentine’s Day, my heart has been drawn to these people. Those people I just listed? I know them. I care about them. And I don’t want them to feel left out or isolated on Valentine’s Day.

What a difference we could make for these people. What an important lesson to teach our kids…. Thinking outside of themselves. Looking to the needs of others. Just being aware.

My plan? Glad you asked. ;)

I’m thinking about sending Valentines from our family to some of our single friends. I’m also thinking about spending some time baking some goodies for them. Maybe some heart-shaped cookies or brownies? Or maybe bagging up some chocolates and attaching a little note? Wouldn’t it be fun to even send flowers? Anything to show them that they are not alone. That they are special. That they are loved.

Do you know someone who might need a little pick-me-up this Valentine’s Day?

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
1 John 4:6-8
